Jules
Verne's school is a French school, located in Finland's capital Helsinki. It
first opened its doors in 1976. The teaching is in French and follows the
French curriculum, recognised worldwide for its academic excellence. The
teachers are from the French Ministry of National Education. Pupils are from
all over the world, and can start from the age of 2. It belongs to the ‘Agence
pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Etranger’ (AEFE, i.e. Agency for French
teaching abroad) network.
Jules Verne gives children the opportunity to learn French and the French culture from a young age, without forgetting the opportunity to discover the Finnish culture through the teaching of Finnish and the organisation of cultural events and exchanges. The French ‘maternelle’ (2.5 to 5 years old) is more than just a pre-school; the curriculum includes introduction to reading and writing, numeracy, artistic and creative activities, and importantly, Finnish lessons. The primary school (6 to 10 years old) curriculum includes literacy and numeracy, with classes in French, arithmetic, but also geography and history, the arts, English and Finnish.
For the children who will move to France or will attend a French school abroad, it ensures they follow the right curriculum while in Finland.
